Holly The Newf's Tuffie's Sport Tug-O-War

Holly The Newf's Tuffie's Sport Tug-O-War

Who ever said Christmas was just for people? We animals had a fabulous Christmas day today with our family. I must have been a very good Newfoundland this year because Santa brought me some really great gifts. I got a Squirell Dude, just like my friend Royal has. His owner Jenn fills it with great treats when she leaves him at home alone. I can’t wait till the next time my people leave and fill my Squirell Dude with my favorite treats. I also got a Tuffie’s Sport Tug-O-War Toy. This is the  indestructible toy that they test on circus lions to make sure they won’t fall apart. Big dogs need big, strong toys!

I got two jingle bell Christmas collars. The cat chases me when I jingle. Mr. Kitten Britches got several great cat toys too. Tomorrow, my good friend Royal is coming to visit with Kim’s sister Jenn. Hopefully, we’re over the flea thing.

Holly attending to Mr. Kitten Britches

Holly attending to Mr. Kitten Britches

It’s been another busy week trying to keep up with Mr. Kitten Britches. He certainly has picked up speed. Last night he got into Kim’s Steinbach Nutcrackers. Yikes! Glad it wasn’t me. He seems to be getting into more and more trouble as the days go on. The only time I don’t have to follow him around is when he’s asleep. Tonight we are getting ready to go to Williamsburg, VA, to be in the Williamsburg Christmas parade on Saturday. I will be marching with all the Newfs from the Colonial Newfoundland Club draft team. We’ll all have our carts and we’ll be dressed up for the Christmas season. My whole family is coming with me. I can’t wait to try out my new red cart and my new red harness that Kim got me. We are going to volunteer at the Colonial Newfoundland Draft test on Sunday. I want to watch how the experienced Newfs do the draft test. Maybe next year, Kim and I can try to get my title. Well, I’m off to pack. Come see me in the parade.

I am just amazed. This new kitten is so entertaining. He is much better than that blue ball toy out in the yard. I watch him for hours and hours. Kim finally let him get down on the floor with me. I don’t know what all the fuss was about. I only chased him once and he told me he didn’t like that, so I didn’t so it again. (He hisses when he doesn’t like something….enough said!) I’m a little confused with his name though. The kids decided to change it from Nermal to Mr. Kitten Britches. Kim said that her daughter has a wonderful story named Skippyjon Jones about a siamese cat who thinks he’s a chihuahua. When he’s in trouble, his mother cat calls him “Mr. Kitten Britches.” It seems to fit, so Mr. Kitten Britches it is. I just call him “Mister.” We are getting to be good friends. I have to watch him all the time though to keep him out of trouble. He likes to climb on things that I know we are not supposed to be on and he is starting to move really fast. I’m sure I’ll have many stories to report in the future. I have a feeling he’s going to get into all kinds of mischief.

holly_kitten_nermalToday was a very special day. I got an early Christmas present. Kim got me a kitten! At first, I didn’t know what to think. In fact, I’m still a bit excited by the whole thing. The kids named him Nermal. He was born under the porch of the house next door to two stray cats. Kim said he is the only one of six baby kittens that survived. It started to get cold and Kim was afraid he would freeze to death. Kim took him to the vet today and they said he was in pretty good health for a kitten without a home. I got to meet him after he went to the vet. He didn’t seem to mind how big I am. I think we are going to be good friends. He is awfully small and Kim says I can’t play with him on the floor just yet. He’s about the same size as my guinea pigs. Jim came home with a funny box that the kitty goes to the bathroom in. I totally don’t know what that’s about. Oh well, I think that life around my house is going to get very interesting. I heard Jim making fun of Kim about wanting to help this cat. He said she is now a cat owner while he was laughing. Jim has always liked cats, but Kim has never been a cat person. I heard Kim say that she is not happy that people in our neighborhood feed stray cats and don’t take responsibility for having them spayed or neutered. She felt this little kitten needed a home and we are going to try and make a good one for him. Well, I have to go watch my kitten some more. I’ll be back soon with more details.
